Writing Tip #44

Go over your notes.

I'm 35,000 words into a project and have finished three sections so far. I'm not only rereading the manuscript to see how it sounds, but I'm also going back over my notes. This is going to help me remember things I might have initially wanted to do but forgot. Or to help me see the vast scope of this project--the characters, the themes, the goals, the story map, the intentions of the plot.

It's like stopping at a rest area when you're three hundred miles into a thousand mile road trip. It's good to get your bearings, to remember what you've seen so far, and to remember where you're going.
